In 'Lightning Man' the main narrative point is the cracks of lightning, making the painted figure an expressive detail added to the composition and creating the perfect ethereal and dreamlike atmosphere. This evocative painting illustrates the power of nature. The lightning emerges from a dream like quality colour palette with deep purple and blue clouds, adding a beautiful texture and depth to the piece. Placed in opposite directions deliberately, the lightning dancing across the sky shaped to be a human figure echoes the character walking on the shoreline to represent their unawareness of each other.

The title, inspired by “the feel of a superhero, an invincible powerful character”, came before the artwork was painted. The artist told us “The title could refer to either of the figures in the painting, but I feel that lending the lightning strike a human shape gives the painting a surreal element, a dreamlike quality.”
